    WHAT IS CPTED?

    Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or CPTED (pronounced sep-ted), is based on a theory that through proper design and effective use of built environments, the incidence of crime and the fear of crime can diminish and the general quality of life can improve for a community. CPTED provides principles for planning and designing safe communities and improving safety measure of existing developments.

    OBJECTIVES

    The course covers the general principles of CPTED, including crime prevention and security strategies, a thorough analysis of proper design and development applications and ways to develop community partnerships in an effort to apply CPTED to all types city developments. Interactive work is included in the training to help participants diagnose problems and formulate effective responses. 

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

    Law enforcement professionals, city and private planners, government officials and other crime prevention practitioners and leaders who are looking to innovative ways to prevent crime in their communities.

MCPA Annual Conference

The MCPA hosts an annual statewide conference in October of each year. This conference features; educational breakout sessions, exhibitors, silent auction, Bingo, and several networking opportunities. The conference is a great way to learn about crime prevention topics and network with a variety of officers from many different agencies throughout Minnesota.
