MN Explorers Competition

2023 Minnesota Law Enforcement Exploring Program (MLEEA)
Annual State Conference | Rochester, MN

The MNCPA continues to be a sponsor of the Crime Prevention scenario that takes place during this annual conference that benefits hundreds of Minnesota youth interested in law enforcement careers. Several members of the MNCPA Board of Directors participate in the annual MN Law Enforcement Explorers Competition, which traditionally occurs yearly in April.

The MNCPA Board Members judge the crime prevention scenario, which can be one of two scenarios. In even numbered years the scenario consists of a crime prevention quiz and a "Neighborhood Watch Start-Up Meeting" on neighborhood watch/operation identification before the judges who are acting as a group of concerned citizens who are interested in forming a neighborhood watch in their community. In odd numbered years the scenario consists of a crime prevention quiz and a home security survey presentation to judges who are acting as a resident whose home had been burglarized and was interested in learning if there were any specific security improvements that could be made in order to make them less likely of becoming a victim of burglary again.

The Crime Prevention quiz usually consists of a 15 point quiz on a variety of Crime Prevention topics. The quiz includes multiple choice, true/false, and fill in the blank. The team average on the quiz is then added to the final team score for their presentation. A maximum of 50 points is possible.

The 15-point quiz will include questions based on general crime prevention concepts (including Operation Identification), the history of crime prevention, and information found in the booklet, "What to do Before the Burglar Comes".

This competition is not only designed to teach police explorers about crime prevention programs, but also to help them develop their public speaking skills.
